DISCOVER 3 STEPS TO SUCCESSFULLY PREVENT ADULT ACNE

Adult Acne Chevy Chase

Acne is not just for teens.

In fact, adult acne is much more common than people realize. It is primarily hormonal, and affects as many as 50 percent of adult women in the US.

Here are three tried-and-true tips for preventing adult acne.

Be Gentle

Don’t blast your skin with harsh products that will further dehydrate it. Use a gentle cleanser such as one with salicylic acid.

Wash Twice a Day, That’s It

Washing your face any more than twice a day can cause drying of the skin, which leads to greater oil production to overcompensate. It’s a vicious cycle.

Break it by washing just twice a day.

Bonus Tip: Use the Clarisonic brush with the sensitive brush head to remove all makeup and help your cleanser work even better.

Don’t Kid Yourself

Skip adult-unfriendly ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide and tretinonin.

These are usually better for younger skin. For adults, I recommend retinoids and chemical peels as they effectively address acne and aging at the same time. It’s a win-win.

If these self-care measures aren’t cutting it, schedule an appointment with Dr. Kazin to find out what’s causing your adult acne and come up with a strategy to treat it.
