Raise your hands if you’re embarrassed to raise your hands.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone, according to Chevy Chase dermatologist Rebecca Kazin. Thin, crepey and veiny hands with age spots are among the biggest complaints she hears from patients. Most people are aware of the importance of using a sunscreen with an SPF30 on their face and other exposed areas, but forget all about their hands. Now their hands are a dead giveaway of their real age.

It’s never too late to start giving your hands some much-needed TLC. This starts with judicious use of sunscreen, such as SkinCeuticals Advanced SPF 30 or PCA Skin Perfecting Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Slather it on your hands just like you do on your face to forestall premature aging and reduce your chances of developing skin cancer.

Keeping your hands well hydrated also helps them look younger and brighter. Apply a moisturizer such as TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream to the backs of your hands where dryness is more pronounced at least twice a day. Some daily moisturizers have an SPF30 and can do double-duty.

Dr. Kazin also has other options to literally turn back the hands of time. She uses injectable fillers to plump up thinning hands, masking the veiny appearance. Radiesse is the only dermal filler that is US Food and Drug Administration- -approved for hand augmentation at the current time, but others, such as Juvederm or Restylane Lyft, can also add volume back to aging hands. Sometimes, a combination of fillers plus intense pulsed light and/or Fraxel may be needed for full hand rejuvenation. Lasers can clear sun spots, and many also stimulate your own production of collagen to restore elasticity from the inside out.

Dr Kazin can help you develop a personalized prevention, treatment and maintenance plan that will keep your hands looking as young as you feel.
